FASTag India: All those people driving on the roads, know that they must get a FASTag, else they will face trouble. Why? The National Electronic Toll Collection (FASTag) program has been implemented at pan India level from 1st December 2019. The initiative is expected to eliminate bottlenecks at various toll plazas and ensure smooth traffic movement. FASTag will ensure collection of toll fee as per the notified rates — a major demand of the vehicle owners while traversing the toll plaza in any part of India. Therefore, to make toll plaza price transparent and boost digital payments, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the NHAI — National Highways Authority of India has directed all National Highways to declare themselves as FASTag Lanes from 1st December 2019. The move was implemented in few National Highways as trial from November 1 and after the successful trial of the FASTag initiative, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has decided to make FASTag mandatory from 1st December 2019 across India.
