"The price of DRDO’s 2DG anti-COVID 19 drug has been kept at Rs 990 per sachet by Dr Reddy’s lab. Govt hospitals, central and state govt would be provided the medicine at a discounted price: Govt officials," tweeted ANI.

2DG anti-COVID 19 drug has been developed by the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), a lab of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in collaboration with Hyderabad-based pharma company Dr Reddy’s Laboratories (DRL). It is one of the highly anticipated drugs in the fight against the deadly coronavirus.

As per India Today, which quoted senior DRDO officials, the second batch of the drug will be limited to 10,000 sachets would be made available to customers only based on a doctor's prescription.

First batch of the drug was launched on May 17 by the Defence Ministry.

Earlier, Defence Research and Development Organisation officials had told ANI, "The first batch of 10,000 doses of 2DG medicine for the treatment of COVID-19 infected patients would be launched early next week and will be given to patients,"

The drug manufacturers are working on ramping up the production of the medicine for future use.

The 2-DG drug developed by DRDO is a big break-through and could be a game-changer in the battle against the pandemic as it helps in faster recovery of the hospitalised patients and reduces oxygen dependence.
