In order to ensure accord and unanimity, The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Monday evening announced that the first coach in the moving direction of all trains will be reserved for women from January 1, 2019. DMRC also announced that this new rule will be applicable to all corridors other than the Red Line.

"Women's Coach Notification. From 1st January 2019, first coach in the moving direction of all trains will be reserved for ladies. This change will be applicable on all lines EXCEPT RED LINE, where the changes will come into effect once the extension to Ghaziabad  is opened(1/2)," DMRC said in a tweet. 

Till now, the first and the last coaches in the trains were reserved for ladies in many corridors. "The first and the last coach at the terminal stations of Line 1 (Red Line-Dilshad Garden to Rithala), Line 5 (Green Line- Inderlok/Kirti Nagar to Brig. Hoshiar Singh), Line 6 (Violet Line- Kashmere Gate to Raja Nahar Singh), Line 7 (Pink Line-Majlis Park to Mayur Vihar Pkt-1 & Trilokpuri-Sanjay Lake to Shiv Vihar) and Line 8 (Magenta Line- Botanical Garden to Janakpuri West) were alternately used as ladies coach on the up and and down lines respectively," DMRC added.

The organisation has added that the rule will also be implemented on the Red line, once it is extended up to Ghaziabad. "Necessary announcements in the trains and at stations regarding this will be made to ensure the smooth transition to the new arrangement," a metro official said.

He also added that the floor graphics and the boards stating 'Women Only' were removed to be fixed at all the metro stations. However, on the corridors of Line 2 and Line 3/4, the first coach both up and down lines will continue to be the ‘Women Only’ coach.
