Data Protection Bill: Ministry of Electronic and Information Technology (MEITY) has extended the deadline for public consultation on "Digital Data Protection Bill 2022" till January 2, 2023. The government made the announcement through an official release on Saturday, December 17.

According to the government, the decision was taken in response to the requests received from several stakeholders.

It should be noted that earlier the last date was December 17, which has now been extended to January 2, 2023.

"In response to the requests received from several stakeholders, the Ministry has decided to extend the last date for receipt of comments till 2nd January 2023," the official notification said.

The IT Ministry had published the "Digital Data Protection Bill 2022" along with an explanatory mote on November 18 on its official website.

“If the Board determines at the conclusion of an inquiry that non-compliance by a person is significant, it may, after giving the person a reasonable opportunity of being heard, impose such a financial penalty as specified in Schedule 1, not exceeding rupees five hundred crore in each instance,” the draft said.
