Expanding the reach of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in the country, Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel, Dharmendra Pradhan Friday inaugurated eight CNG stations and dedicated 48 others to the services of the community over video link from his office. The work at these stations was affected due to the nationwide lockdown but the process started once again after the relaxations of norms.

This ensured minimum delay in commissioning of these stations as against the original schedule. With the addition of these stations to India’s CNG station network, the daily filling capacity in the country has gone up by over 50,000 vehicles.

The stations are spread across Geographical Areas in 10 states and one union territory. They belong to several companies in both public and private sectors. These include: Adani Gas Limited, Bagpat Green Energy Pvt. Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Dholpur CGD Pvt. Limited, GAIL (India) Limited, GAIL Gas Limited, Green Gas Limited, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Indian Oil – Adani Gas Pvt. Limited, Indraprastha Gas Limited, Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited, Think Gas Bhopal Pvt. Limited, Think Gas Ludhiana Pvt. Limited and Torrent Gas Pvt. Limited.WATCH |

The states and union territory where the CNG stations were opened are Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, New Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.

Till mid of 2018, 96 Geographical Areas spread  in 24 States/Union Territories (UTs) in the country were covered for development and expansion of CGD  networks. The 9th CGD bidding round concluded in  2018 was India’s largest ever with as many as 174 districts with 86 GAs. The 10th CGD bidding round covering 124 districts with 50 GAs  again witnessed huge interest from investors. 9th & 10th rounds cumulatively attracts an investment of Rs 90000 crores. 

After these rounds, India shall have CGD infrastructure operational across 407 districts of the country covering more than 50% of country’s area and serving more than 70 % of the population. 

Development of CGD network in India is in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to achieve most of the COP 21 Climate Change goals set for 2030 to reduce greenhouse gas.
