This year’s Dhanteras 2020 date is shrouded in a bit of confusion. Dhanteras is celebrated on Krishna paksha in the Kartik month. It falls on the day of triyodashi. This day is also known as Dhan Triyodashi. It is considered auspicious to buy gold, silver or items made of brass.

Why is it celebrated? 

On this day, people worship Lord Dhanvantari. It is believed that at the time of famous Samudra Manthan, Lord Dhanvantari emerged in the form of a gem. Along with Lord Dhanvantari, Ganesh and Goddess Lakshmi are also worshipped. The celebrations of Diwali start from Dhanteras.  

Dhanteras Muhurat 

The right time for buying is between 11:20 and 12:04 pm on 12 November. The Dhanteras date is 13 November. 

Dhanteras Shopping Time 

For doing Dhanteras shopping on 13 November, the first muhurat is between 7 am and 10 am. The next muhurat is between 1 pm and 2.30 pm.  In the evening the right time for worshipping is between 5:28 pm and 5:59 pm.  

The Pradosh Kal Muhurat is between 5:28 pm and 8:07 pm on 13 November, 2020 

Vrishabh (Taurus) Kaal Muhurat is between 5:32 pm and 7:28 pm on 13 November, 2020 

Dhanteras Significance 

As per the Indian mythology, at the time of Samudra Manthan done by the gods and the demons, 14 gems emerged out of it. One of the gems was Lord Dhanvantari with brass and vessel with honeydew (Amrit) in his hand. This is the reason why it is considered auspicious to buy things made out of brass too.
