CoviSelf, India`s first Covid-19 test kit for self-use, has been commercially rolled out by Biotechnology company Mylab Discovery Solutions. After getting approval from Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) last month, the coronavirus self-test kit was launched on Thursday by Mylab Discovery Solutions.

"Self-testing should slow down the spread of Covid-19 significantly. We aim to make CoviSelf available across the length and breadth of the country, especially for the people residing in rural areas who have limited options for testing," Hasmukh Rawal, Managing Director of Mylab Discovery Solutions, said in a statement, reported Zee News. 

India's first Covid-19 test kit for self-use can get results within 20 minutes. Priced at Rs 250, the package contains Intelligently designed tube filled with solution which inactivates the virus and designed in the manner to control & contain biohazard, said e-commerce website Flipkart. Besides, in drug stores and chemist shops, India`s first Covid-19 test kit for self-use will be made available on the e-commerce website.  "Biohazard bag for easy & safe disposable Unique QR Code for accurate report generation. Safe Swab is designed intelligently for bio containment," said Flipkart under product descriptions.   

Mylab will reportedly distribute self-test kit to 95 per cent of the PIN codes in the county. Initially, the biotech company will manufacture one million self-test kits and based on consumer demand, it will make 10 million units available per week.  

This kit offers easy-to-use and accurate alternative to the current test method. It can be used by individuals with or without symptoms and immediate contacts of confirmed cases as per the ICMR guidelines.
