Now, in order to contain to spread of the disease, several states have imposed certain restrictions. The common people must be aware of certain news related to the COVID-19 situation in the country. They are as follows:

Number of coronavirus cases in the country
India recorded 1,79,723 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, as per the data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). Furthermore, 46,569 recoveries have been recorded in the last 24 hours increases taking the total number of recoveries to 3,45,00,172.

Vaccination scenario in the country
151.94 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under Nationwide Vaccination Drive, as per the data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

Booster doses for 60 years and above from today
One must note that India has begun administering booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to frontline workers and vulnerable elderly people from Monday. Only healthcare personnel, frontline workers and people above 60 years suffering from other health conditions are eligible for what the government calls a "precaution dose".

More than two crore doses for children between 15 and 18 years
Union Minister Anurag Thakur has tweeted from his official Twitter handle on January 9, 2022 that about 2 crore vaccine doses administered to youngsters between the age group 15 and 18. The tweet said, "Young India is Racing to get Vaccinated ! 2 crore+ youngsters between the 15-18 age group have received their first dose of #COVID19 vaccine in less than a week of vaccination drive for children."

Omicron variant cases in India
As on Monday 4,033 Omicron variant cases have been reported in India as per the press release from the MoHFW.
