Does the cosmetics label leave you confused? Labelling on all cosmetic products including skin creams, oil, deo, kajal or lipstick could get simpler as the Ministry of Health has proposed changes in cosmetics norms. As per the notification by MoHFW (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) in case, any discrepancy is found in the test, the product will directly be stamped as Spurious Cosmetics. As per the new norms, companies will have to maintain complete details of the content used for three years.

The last date of expiry for cosmetics will be the last day of the month and the best before means the first day. MoHFW has proposed to amend the Cosmetics Rules, 2020. The ministry has asked for suggestions and objections sought from all stakeholders in 45 days.

The current system will remain applicable to soap makers. The Central Drug Laboratory will operate as all kinds of investigation and appellate authority. The notification said, the authority for licensing in the states, can send a show cause notice on any issue. The license can be cancelled or suspended if a satisfactory answer is not received and will have three months to appeal. The quality of the product made for exports, and packing as per the standards will be as per the laws of that country.

The product will be called spurious cosmetics instead of adulterated cosmetics. The license will be called approval and the area where production is approved will be known as Approved Premises instead of Licensed Premises.
