With 2,958 new cases and 126 new fatalities, India`s coronavirus count on Wednesday climbed to 49,391, said the Health Ministry.

In a morning update, the Health Ministry said that of the total number 33,514 are active cases, and 1,694 fatalities have been reported so far.

At least 14,182 people have been cured and discharged from the hospital while one person has migrated to another country.

Maharashtra reported most number of cases 15,525 and 617 fatalities followed by Gujarat with total 6,245 cases and 368 deaths. The national capital reported 5,104 cases and 64 deaths so far. States which saw a sharp rise in the COVID cases are Tamil Nadu (4,058), Rajasthan (3,158) and Madhya Pradesh (3,049).

The Union Territory Dadar Nagar Haveli entered the list with its first case. No cases had ever been reported from here so far.

The Northeastern state Tripura reported a sudden spike in the cases and has 43 cases now and has equal number of cases as another Northeast state Assam.

Other states which reported a significant number of cases are Uttar Pradesh (2,880), Andhra Pradesh (1,717), West Bengal (1,344) and Telangana (1,096).

States that reported more than 500 cases are Bihar (536), Haryana (548), Jammu and Kashmir (741), Karnataka (671) and Kerala (502).

MP coronavirus cases cross 3,000 mark

With 107 persons testing positive overnight the coronavirus cases in Madhya Pradesh crossed the 3,049 mark on Tuesday night, the health department officials said.

The number of deaths was up by 11 in the same period taking the tally to 176. Five deaths were reported in Ujjain, two each in Indore and Jabalpur and one each in Satna and Bhopal.

Indore, remains the hottest spot accounting for 79 deaths. It has recorded 43 new confirmed cases taking the tally to 165.

Dhar reported 20 new cases in 24 hours, followed by Ujjain 18, eight each in Bhopal and Jabalpur, four in Raisen, two each in Khargone and Khandwa and one each in Anuppur and Tikamgarh.

Bhopal now has 571 cases, Ujjain (184), Jabalpur (106), Khargone (79), Dhar (75), Raisen (63), Khandwa (49) and three each in Anuppur and Tikamgarh.

The number of cases in other districts is: 36 each in Hoshangabad and Mandsaur, 34 in Burhanpur, 26 each in Barwani and Dewas, 17 in Morena, 16 in Ratlam, 13 in Vidisha, 12 in Agar Malwa, seven in Shajapur, five each in Chhindwara, Gwalior and Sagar, four in Sheopur, three each in Alirajpur, Harda and Shahdol, two each in Rewa and Shivpuri and one each in Ashok Nagar, Betul, Dindori, Panna and Satna.

The condition of 1,632 patients is stable while that of 241 was serious. 1,000 people have recovered. The total number of active cases in MP is 1,873.

Uttar Pradesh buses to operate in green zones

The Yogi Adityanath government has issued guidelines for operation of roadways buses in green zone districts of Uttar Pradesh from Wednesday.

Raj Shekhar, Managing Director of UP State Roadways Transport Corporation (UPSRTC), said, "Buses will run in all routes of green zone districts. Buses would also run between two districts in a green zone. Buses will be available from green zone districts to the border districts which are in green zone."

He further said that it will be mandatory for passengers to cover their faces with masks, handkerchief or `gamchha`, whichever is available with them.

"Without a face mask, boarding will not be allowed in buses and passengers will have to sanitise their hands before they board the bus. The number of passengers in every bus would be regulated as per the guidelines of the Central government," he said.

Shekhar further said that every bus will have a 500 ml hand sanitizer bottle and the driver and conductor will also cover their faces and conductors will be required to wear gloves.

The route of buses would be changed accordingly if there is a change in the zone category of a district.

All buses will be sanitized twice a day, before and after every trip.

Every depot would have a COVID -19 task force in place.

The running of buses from Wednesday is a part of the state government`s efforts to gradually ease lockdown rules and allow restricted movement in green zones.
