Central Railway users will be put to some more trouble this month due to the ongoing work. The existing rail lines between Thane and Diva were shifted to make room for two new lines and the work was partially completed on Sunday. However, as the second leg of this project will be carried out soon, Central Railway services will likely have to deal with a mega block on October 14. Local trains will be running late by 20 to 30 minutes on October 14 due to the mega block.

Currently, there are logjams between Thane and Diva station caused by the two new railway lines which segregate the local trains from the long-distance ones, according to a DNA report.

‘’After a fortnight, we will lay down tracks for the new line which will serve as slow line for local trains once ready. On September 30, the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) and CR authorities shifted the existing rail lines after cutting it between the south end of Kalwa till Mumbra through the old tunnel.’’ The railway officials said.

R Khurana, Chairman and Managing Director, MRVC said that they are creating space to accommodate two new rail lines by shifting the existing ones. Another rail block is likely on October 14 for similar work.

Now, Thane-Diva fifth and sixth line work has been going on for nearly a decade. This railway project is slated for completion by 2019.

The rail officials found it difficult to dig a tunnel as there was a change in the alignment. A new rail bridge of 1 km was constructed near Mumbra. According to the sources, a lot more work is still pending.
