Passenger car sales in India dropped 11.21% from 1,94,932 units in June 2017 from 2,13,331 units in the same month of last year. However, the cars that saw worse sales drop included Toyota Corolla, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross and Swift.

Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) data show that it was Toyota Kirloskar Motor that had the worst month in terms of car sales. Five out of the 10 cars with highest drop in sales belonged to the Japanese carmaker.

Sales of Toyota Corolla dropped 92.27%, at 42 units while Maruti Suzuki S-Cross sales saw an 89.86% drop with onnly 228 units sold as against 2,249 units in June of 2016. 

This was followed by Toyota Etios, Toyota Fortuner and Toyota Innova with sales of 195, 356 and 1,068 units, a drop of 87.25%, 81.85% and 81.07%, respectively. 

Toyota Live and Cross saw 79.33% sales drop at 228 units as against 1,103 units, while Mahindra Xylo's sales fell 61.23%. 

SIAM data show that Maruti Suzuki Gypsy, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Swift sold 463, 326 and 9,902 units registering a drop of 46.35%, 42.10% and 40.10%, respectively. 

In total, Toyota sold 1,973 cars as against 13,567 units in June 2016. The company had a market share of just 1.01%. 

The data further show that, in June 2017, hatchbacks sold 53% of the total cars sold while sedan and SUVs commanded 18% and 17% of the market, respectively.
