The Bullet train project is progressing at a moderate speed amid protest from the farmers. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has reportedly refused to release the next installment of funds and asked the government to settle farmers' issue first. Following this, the central government has formed a special committee to look into the funding issue.

Controversies aside, the bullet trains will not only come with many modern facilities but also the stations will be designed around special themes. As per a report, Surat, dubbed as world’s largest diamond hub, will have a diamond themed station.

On the other hand, Vadodara station will be themed around Banyan tree (Vad-tree).

The bullet train corridor will have 12 stations - four in Maharashtra and eight in Gujarat. The stations in Maharashtra will be Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), Thane, Virar and Boisar while those in Gujarat will be Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, and Sabarmati. A TOI report said that all the stations except BKC will have a different design but will follow the same pattern.

All the stations will have three-level - ground floor as an entrance, first floor as concourse and the second floor will have platforms.
