He was briefing the media today. Dr. Guleria also mentioned that Mucormycosis is not a communicable disease, unlike COVID-19. Around 90-95 per cent of patients getting infected are found to have been either diabetic and/or taking steroids.

He again listed out some of the common symptoms of Mucormycosis. Dr. Guleria said some of the common symptoms are one-sided facial swelling, headache, nasal or sinus congestion, black lesions on the nasal bridge or upper inside of the mouth that quickly become more severe, and fever.

This new form of fungus is said to be more lethal than black fungus and white fungus. According to the doctor, the symptoms of Yellow Fungus are lethargy, lack of appetite, loss of weight. In severe cases, there could be pus, wounds taking a long time to heal, malnutrition, organs not functioning, or sunken eyes.

It has been advised to maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and hygiene in order to fight the disease, as the fungus grows in unhygienic surroundings and humidity.
