QR code on Medicines: Big news for pharmaceutical companies! The government will soon make QR code mandatory on the pack of 300 medicines. For this, preparations are being made by the Center to amend the Drugs Rules, 1945. The draft of the amendment has been issued on June 16, 2022.

Objections have been sought on the draft within 30 days. It is expected that the amendment can be implemented from May 1, 2023. Zee Business Ambrish Pandey's report.

According to Pandey, the government is going to make it mandatory for pharmaceutical companies to provide many essentials on a pack of 300 medicines. In this, the QR (Quick Response) code will be required on the pack. It has been said in the draft that if there is no space on the medicine strip, then it will be mandatory to print the information on the packet.

According to the draft issued by the government to amend the Drugs Rules, 1945, the following information will have to be given in the code.
(i) Unique product identification code
(ii) Proper and generic name of the drug
(iii) Brand name
(iv) Name and address of the manufacturer
(v) Batch number
(vi) Date of manufacturing
(vii) Date of expiry
