On account of heavy investments in both greenfield and brownfield airports in India and increasing footfall in Digital Yatra scheme, the central government's regional connectivity scheme UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) would get double of the commercially-connected airports it is getting today. The Minister of State (MoS) for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha informed about the development through his official tweeter handle on February 13.

While informing about the Aviation Summit 2019 the MoS Civil Aviation tweeted, "India is investing significantly in capacity addition both in greenfield and brownfield airports. We are also working on increasing throughput at airports using #DigiYatra. #UDAN will take the commercially-connected airports from 75 to around 150."

While addressing the Aviation Summit 2019 in New Delhi, Sinha also stated that India is poised to reach a billion plus trips a year and will have 3,000+ aircrafts over the next 15-20 years."We at @MoCA_GoI are committed to support the entire aviation ecosystem," he said.

UDAN is an ambitious project of the Central Government that aims to let common man of India fly by making the air travel in India affordable and widespread. Currently, it has 75 commercially-connected airports that is going to become 150 as Tourism Ministry's Digital Yatra program is gaining good traction among the tourists, who belive in using domestic flights.
