The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India is nothing less than a horror story. More than three lakh people getting infected every day, hundreds of deaths, shortage of oxygen, shortage of hospital beds and what not! The lockdowns and curfews imposed by various state governments to curb the spread of the infection is reminding of the complete lockdown imposed by the central government when the COVID-19 pandemic first struck the country last year.

Amidst this adverse conditions, Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has taken the initiative to provide Remdesivir, the coronavirus drug, free of cost across the state to the COVID-19 patients. At a time when people are running hopelessly from pillar to post for survival, this initiative by the Uttar Pradesh government has certainly brought some amount of relief for them. The announcement that the COVID-19 patients who are being treated in government as well as private hospitals all over the state will get the COVID-19 drug for free, was made by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister.

 

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister has also issued a warning against black marketing and hoarding of the drug. He also stated that the accused will be charged under National Security Act.
In further relief to the people, the UP government has also stated that if there are no beds in the government hospitals, the COVID-19 patients will be treated in private hospitals and the full reimbursement will be provided by the government.

In the midst of this pandemic crisis, the state governments are trying their best to ease out the misery of the citizens. Several state governments including Uttar Pradesh have also decided to give free vaccines to the citizens.

The COVID-19 vaccination drive has already begun in India and the third phase which will include the people above 18 years of age for vaccination is going to start from May 1, 2021. The registration process for the third phase of COVID-19 vaccination drive at CoWin portal is set to start from today.

Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also tweeted, " Uttar Pradesh government has placed an order for 1 crore doses of anti-COVID vaccines for the vaccination drive beginning May 1."
