What are these tyre killers?

Tyre killers are metal strips installed on roads with sharp spikes on one side. They act as minor speed breakers for those in the correct side, while the tyres of vehicles in the wrong side get punctured instantly.

According to a Times of India report, the road connects to the shopping complex at Prateek Visteria in Sector 77 and nearby residential apartments. The authorities believe that the spikes would act as a deterrent and force people to follow the right lane. This will eventually reduce the traffic chaos at the spot.

However, a similar project was also rolled out in Pune but was not much successful. The report quoted an expert as saying that these spikes may prove fatal for bikers and cyclist. On the other hand, the residents expressed their pleasure saying that there is a need to discipline those violating traffic.

A PTI report has said that the Noida Authority will be installing these tyre killers also at the Hoshiarpur U-turn, Sector 61 Sai temple U-turn, near Sector 76 metro station and near Sector 16 A flyover.

Recently, the Noida Traffic Police had penalised over 900 people on New Year's eve for road traffic violations.
