Bank holiday today: Branches of all major banks will remain closed on Thursday as over 14.21 crore voters will decide the fate of 1,279 candidates in 91 constituencies across India in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections. A State Bank of India official told Zee Business Online that branches of all the constituencies going to poll will not be operational on Thursday. The official said that operations will be hit on Friday too as all the employees who are on election duty on April 11, will be given an off. This would be followed by month's second Saturday and Sunday where the banks are closed. So, you may have to wait for four days before getting the work done.

The first phase is third biggest in terms of number of Lok Sabha seats among the seven phases in which the election will be conducted. More than 1.70 lakh polling booths set up across 20 states and Union Territories. According to official data, a total of 14,21,69,537 voters are eligible voters can cast their ballot. There are 7,22,17,733 male voters and 6,98,55931 female voters. There are an additional 7,764 third gender voters. Schools, colleges and government offices of these constituencies will also be closed with employees getting paid leave.

In Chhattisgarh constituencies of Sarguja, Raigarh, Janjgir, Korba, Bilaspur, Rajnandgaon, Durg, Raipur, Mahasamund, Bastar, Kanker would observe a holiday. Also, for Odisha, cities and towns of Bargarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Bhubhaneswar, Aska, Berhampur, Koraput would remain closed.
