The banks across the country will remain closed today due to the national holiday on 15th August, Independence Day, on Monday. As per the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) bank holiday list 2022, the banks will be closed for 12 days in August and seven days from today, including August 15. Overall, the banks will be closed for 18 days this month. This includes weekends and the holidays announced by the RBI. The banking regulator has put these holidays under three categories—the Negotiable Instruments Act Holiday, the Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday, and Banks' Closing of Accounts.

Meanwhile, apart from August 15 when India celebrates its 76th Independence Day, the Banks will be closed on August 16 due to Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi), while it will remain also remain closed on August 18 and 19 to celebrate Janmashtami and Janmashtami (Shravan Vad-8)/Krishna Jayanthi respectively.  

Besides, the banking operations will be also be suspended on August 20, 29 and 31 to mark Sri Krishna Ashtami, Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva and Ganesh Chaturthi respectively.  

It is to be noted that these holidays vary from state to state and are observed in line with the festivals celebrated in these states. Here is the list of holidays this month when banks will remain closed in your state/city from today, August 15, 2022.  

1) 15th August, Independence Day: Banks across the country will remain closed on this day as India celebrates its 75th year of Independence.  

2) 16 August, Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi): Banks will remain closed in Belapur, Mumbai and Nagpur.  

3) 18 August, Janmashtami: Bhubaneswar, Dehradun, Kanpur and Lucknow.  

4) 19 August, Janmashtami (Shravan Vad-8)/Krishna Jayanthi: Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Gangtok, Jaipur, Jammu, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar,  

5) 20 August, Sri Krishna Ashtami: Hyderabad.  

6) 29 August, Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva: Guwahati  

7) 31 August, Samvatsari (Chaturthi Paksha)/Ganesh Chaturthi/Varasiddhi Vinayaka Vrata/Vinayakar Chathurthi: Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji.
