Ministry of AYUSH is set to bring a structured central regulatory regime to regulate Yoga in India, to ensure credibility and authenticity of yoga services being provided across the nation. Government sources informed Zee Business' Suman Agarwal that the National Medical commission (NMC) Bill will be presented in the upcoming Monsoon session of Parliament. The bill contains strict provisions to regulate yoga.

Earlier in 2017, AIIMS in collaboration with AYUSH ministry announced guidelines on yoga asanas, which were beneficial to combat certain ailments. Since the guidelines were not implemented properly, the regulation is needed to regulate in its true nature. The new NMC Bill 2017 will also have provisions to promote yoga, naturopathy and homoeopathy, while regulating yoga in a scientific manner.

Reason behind Regulation
A study in its findings has suggested that "not all yoga exercises are effective and suitable for all conditions". Considering the findings of the study, the Ayush ministry has decided to come up with a research-based detailed standard yoga protocol for prevention and treatment of different kind of diseases. AIIMS in its research has also found that Yoga is capable of fighting several diseases including Migraine, Heart disease and Depression, but a condition is applied to it. The condition is that it should be practised in a technical way, otherwise, it may have negative impact on health.

"Yoga has turned up to be a trend today and people are joining the trend at a large scale by taking up any exercise. But such unanimous selection of exercises may have a negative impact on the ailment," says Shailendra, a Yoga Guru.
