Filing TDR could be a tricky process for many passengers. For normal passengers, E-ticket cannot be cancelled after chart preparation. Users are requested to use the online TDR filing for such cases and track Status of the refund case through tracking service provided by IRCTC. In this article, we’ll tell you how one can file TDR through the catering service provider's website just by following few simple steps.

TDR refers to the Ticket Deposit Receipt. It is useful in the circumstances where despite having a booked ticket, the person doesn’t undertake a journey and wants to apply for the refund. For this purpose, one can visit IRCTC, the e-ticketing website of  Indian Railways, to avail the facility to file the TDR online.  After filing the TDR, the refund process then takes at least 60 days.

TDR can be filed in many situations including the cancellation of the train, delay of train for more than 3 hours and passenger not travelling etc.

To file TDR for train tickets through IRCTC, one simply needs to follow following easy steps.

First of all , log in to the IRCTC account  and click on Booked Ticket History. There one can get the list of tickets where date of journey has elapsed.

Secondly, select the PNR for which TDR to be filed and click on “File TDR” button. Then fill details like passenger’s name, reason to file TDR to claim the refund and click the “submit” button.

If the reason is not from the list box and one selects option “others”, new text box will appear. After filling the detail of reason, click on “ submit” button.

Thereafter , an alert window showing the confirmation will be shown . Click on “OK” button in case the details are confirmed.

Following these simple steps, one’s TDR will be filed successfully and the confirmation page of TDR entry will show details like  PNR Number, Transanction ID, Reference number, TDR Status and reason.

No refund of fare shall be admissible on the tickets having confirmed reservation in case the ticket is not cancelled or TDR not filed online upto four hours before the scheduled departure of the train.

No refund of fare shall be admissible on RAC e-tickets is case the ticket is not cancelled or TDR not filed online upto thirty minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.

In case, on a party e-ticket or a family e-ticket issued for travel of more than one passenger, some passengers have confirmed reservation and others are on RAC or waiting list, full refund of fare , less clerkage, shall be admissible for confirmed passengers also subject to the condition that the ticket shall be cancelled online or online TDR shall be filed for all the passengers upto thirty minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.
