Indian Railways has made possible yet another stellar achievement that will make the country proud! Railways has given thrust bring overall improvement in its services and speed of trains is one of the foremost priorities. The constant effort in this direction has borne fruit, as Chittaranjan Locomotive Works Factory in West Bengal has prepared a special engine that can run at an amazing speed of 180 kilometers per hour. The engine, built under the Make in India campaign, will be used in trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto and Tejas in future.

Under this 'mission speed', Indian Railways has also started work on the New Delhi-Howrah route, including Kanpur-Lucknow. The intention is to increase the speed of trains to 160 kmph. By increasing the speed of trains on the Delhi-Howrah section to 160 kmph will lead to increase in the average speed of passenger trains by over 60 per cent. The government has reportedly stated to increase the average speed of goods trains by up two times by 2022-23 too.

Savings of over 5 hours

With improvement of tracks, the trains will run at a speed of 160 kmph on the New Delhi-Howrah route, thereby, reducing the travel time between New Delhi and Howrah by more than 5 hours. Notably, semi high-speed trains like Vande Bharat Express will also be able to run on this route.
