An aircraft carrying Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on board made an emergency landing at Bhopal's Raja Bhoj Airport on Tuesday evening, reports said.

Bhopal police commissioner Harinarayan Chari Mishra confirmed the report that the plane had indeed made an emergency landing at the Bhopal airport, but details or reasons for the emergency landing were not clear.

However, some reports claimed that the emergency landing was caused due to bad weather conditions, when the plane ws on its way from Bengaluru to Delhi where the two leaders were attending the meeting of opposition parties.

The Bhopal police commissioner said that the aircraft was likely to take off for onward journey around 9.30 PM.

Leaders of 26 opposition parties concluded their two-day meeting in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
