7th Pay Commission: In some great news, government employees here are all set to get a major boost as their demands for higher salaries is all set to get cleared at the highest levels. It has been revealed that the Tripura government is working speedily to quickly take the decision to give the go ahead for the implementation of the new system that will hike staff salaries in accordance with the pay panel's report. The work to clear the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) benefits was on at a fast pace, according to the Tripura deputy chief minister and Finance Minister Jishnu Devvarma, and that revised perks will be implemented soon. He said, "We have commissioned a committee. It shall be done soon". Trotting out some facts, he said that Tripura had the highest rate of government employees proportionate to the states population. He added, "We have 4.38 per cent of population as government employees. It is 0.35 per cent in Gujarat, 0.77 percent in Assam". The outgo on salaries will weigh quite heavily on the state's exchequer.

He also shed some light on another aspect, which was recruitment. Jishnu Devvarma said that the government will soon announce new recruitment rules for all departments as a draft has been prepared and is just awaiting government's approval. He said this will happen soon. "The draft needs to be finalized. I shall see (the proposal), the chief minister too will see," Devvarma added. The decision should be rational and reasonable and take into consideration the problems of the people, he said. However, a little bit of time will be taken as the the proposal will also be discussed with all the ministers.

Even as this state's staff is set to soon hear the good news, the same has become elusive at the central government level for the employees. They are waiting for a hike in their pay through a fitment factor of 3.68 times rather than 2.57. The minimum salaries fo staff at the lower level will then rise to Rs 26,000. This decision by the Centre is still hanging fire.
