Nearly 1 crore central government employees and pensioners are set to benefit with pay increase as proposed in the CPC. There are nearly 47 lakh employees and over 50 lakh pensioners in India on central government payrolls currently.

The Committee is expected to finish its report during the meeting over the weekend and submit it to the government for approval.

An employee union, however, isn’t happy with the CPC and has threatened to go on strike.

M Krishnan, Secretary General of the Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers has given a notice to the government of going on strike from July 11.

The Union is demanding a minimum salary hike of Rs 26,000 as against Rs 18,000 recommended in the 7th Pay Commission.

The Empowered Committee, however, is expected to recommend a minimum salary hike of Rs 21,000 to Rs 24,000 per month.
