3rd phase vaccination: The government has allowed vaccination for those above 18 years from today, May 1. In Covid 19 vaccination third phase that kick starts today, now people in the age range of 18 to 45 years will also be covered. However, as registration for third phase began on April 28 on cowin.gov.in, most of the people could not find slot and complained that appointments were not taken. So far, more than 2.45 beneficiaries have got themselves with the portal.

The move behind increasing the age ambit is to expedite vaccinationa process in the view of Covid 19 surge across the country.  

As vaccine shortage continues, it is learnt that vaccination for adults above 18 years may not start in many states and only those states who have coordinated with manufacturers for vaccine requirement will participate in the third phase vaccination Tion, said india.com. 

Many states, including Delhi, Odisha, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Punjab, have complained of vaccine shortage and their inability to kick off the drive. Also, some states have said that they will begin the third phase vaccination only in select districts, while some said they will priorities those above 35 years due to vaccine shortage.  

In another development, private hospitals have been told to directly contact manufacturers for vaccine as government will not be supplying vaccines to these hospitals. "This time vaccine supply will not be (given) by govt but we’ve been asked to write to manufacturers directly and we’ve written to Bharat Biotech and SII for vaccines," said Dr Rupali Basu, MD & CEO, Woodlands Hospital, Kolkata on 3rd phase of vaccination drive.
