The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to extend the school closure period till May 15, 2021 as per a PTI report. The board exams have also been postponed. This announcement has come at a time when the state of Uttar Pradesh reported its highest-single day spike in coronavirus cases since the outbreak of the pandemic last year on Thursday.
On Thursday, the state has reported a total number of 22,439 fresh cases and 104 related deaths, pushing the fatality count to 9,480 and the total infection number to 7,66,360.

In fact, the Uttar Pradesh government had earlier issued a notification regarding the postponement of the class 10 class 12 board exams as the exams were coinciding with the panchayat polls of the state. As per the revised date sheets, the UP class 10 exams were supposed to commence from May 8, 2021 and slated to continue till May 25, 2021. Again, the UP board class 12 board exams were scheduled to take place from May 8, 2021, till May 28, 2021.

As of now, the board exams for class 10 class 12 candidates have been postponed till May 20 and the dates of the exams will be decided in the first week of the month.

Due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases across the country, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has also announced earlier this week that the board exams for class 10 have been cancelled. As far as the board exams for class 12 candidates are concerned, they stand postponed as of now. A decision regarding the dates for conducting the CBSE class 12 board exams will be taken after a thorough review on June 1, 2021.

Coming back to Uttar Pradesh, as per a government statement, the government imposed an 11-hour night curfew with immediate effect in 10 districts having more than 2,000 active COVID-19 cases. The decisions were taken during an online meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from his residence, where he has isolated himself after testing positive for coronavirus.
