School reopening news: Schools across five states will resume classes for junior standard students from today February 8. Most of these states have allowed opening of schools for students of senior classes. These states will be mostly open schools for Class 1 to 8. The decisions have been taken by respective state governments keeping in mind improving Covid-19 situation across the country. While some states gear up to open their schools this week, some other state governments are in the planning stage and reviewing their situation before making a decision about the same. The states that are opening the schools will be following strict COVID-19 guidelines. Here's the list of states reopening schools from February 8 (Monday).

Bihar 

Nearly after 10 months of closure, the Bihar government on Friday announced that the schools for classes 6 to 8 in the state will reopen from February 8. Schools have been asked to ensure adherence to COVID-19 guidelines – wearing face masks and maintaining appropriate distance among others. Previously, Bihar schools reopened for Classes 9 to 12 with 50 percent attendance. Colleges too, resumed physical classes for final year students. 

Rajasthan  

Schools in Rajasthan for students of Classes 6 to 8 will open from February 8 after a gap of 10 months due to the pandemic-induced lockdown. Classes will also resume for first and second-year undergraduate and postgraduate students.  

Uttarakhand 

The Uttarakhand Government on Thursday ordered schools to resume offline classes for students of Classes 6 to 11 from February 8. It also asked the school administrations to ensure COVID-19 appropriate behaviour on part of both students and teachers. The students will only be allowed to attend school only with the permission of their parents. If the number of students coming to attend school is high, sessions will be held in two shifts. 

Odisha  

After conducting physical classes for standards 10 and 12 for a month, the Odisha government said that it has decided to reopen schools for the students of classes 9 and 11 from February 8 amid strict adherence to COVID-19 guidelines. Regular classroom teaching for students of standards 9 and 11 will be held between 8.30 am and 10.30 am six days a week from February 8 to April 30. 

Tamil Nadu 

Classes for standards 9 and 11 in Tamil Nadu would resume from Monday while resumption of classes from 1 to 8 would be decided upon by Chief Minister of the state E Palaniswami, said Education Minister K A Sengottaiyan on Sunday. Students should attend the classes by wearing the masks in view of the COVID-19 pandemic and bring an acceptance from parents that they are willing to send their wards to school, he said. Tamil Nadu colleges and universities have also been allowed to reopen for undergraduate and postgraduate classes from February 8 and they will be open six days a week to cover the syllabus for the academic year 2020-21.
