The reason behind such a decision by the Rajasthan government is the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in this western state of the country. As per a PTI report, the director of Secondary Education Department said that all state-run and private schools in Rajasthan will have summer vacation from today, April 22 to June 6.

The school Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasra has tweeted that in view of the rising COVID-19 cases in the state, all schools have been directed to declare summer vacation.

The recent spike in the number of coronavirus cases in the country has baffled the authorities. The state governments are imposing stringent measures and even lockdowns to curb the spread of the disease. The government of Rajasthan has imposed a 15-day lockdown in the state to control the spread of the pandemic across the state till May 3, 2021.

All the educational institutions including schools and colleges have been closed for 15 days till May 3, 2021, after the state government imposed a lockdown on the entire state. The educational institutions in the state have been ordered to stay closed from April 19, 2021, till May 3, 2021. With the declaration of the summer vacation, the schools in the state will now remain closed till June 6, 2021.

The order that declared the summer vacation in Rajasthan for the schools also stated that those teachers who are engaged in campaigns to fight COVID-19 will be able to avail vacation only after permission of competent authority such as district collector or sub-divisional magistrate.

In order to ensure the safety of the students from the spread of the COVID-19 infection, various other states have also announced summer vacations for the schools in advance. Yesterday, the Haryana government had declared summer vacation for the schools in the state till May 31, 2021. Earlier, West Bengal had also declared the summer vacation in advance for the government schools in the state due to the adverse COVID-19 scenario in the state. On April 19, 2021, West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said, "All the state government-run schools to remain closed from tomorrow till further notice. Early Summer vacation has been announced, in view of the surge in #COVID19 cases."
