It must be noted that last year, the NTA conducted the JEE Mains 2021 exams in four phases due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The exams of the first session started on February 23, 2021. Due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the third and the fourth sessions which were scheduled to take place in April and May had to be postponed.

As per the JEE Main 2021 Information Bulletin, "The Paper 1 of JEE (Main) 2021 will be held in February 2021 followed by next three Sessions in March, April, and May 2021. This is being done to ensure that the JEE (Main) 2021 does not interfere with the Board examinations, which may be held at different times across the States/UTs. Paper 2A & Paper 2B (B. Arch & B. Planning) will be held only twice a year (February & May 2021)."

In 2021, the JEE Main exams were conducted in the following modes:

1) Paper 1 (B.E. /B. Tech.) in “Computer Based Test (CBT)” mode only

2) Paper 2A (B. Arch): Mathematics (Part-I) and Aptitude Test (Part-II) in “Computer Based Test (CBT)” mode only and Drawing Test (Part-III) in pen & paper (offline) mode, to be attempted on drawing sheet of A4 size.

3) Paper 2B (B. Planning): Mathematics (Part-I), Aptitude Test (Part-II) and Planning Based Questions (Part-III) in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode only.
