No student will be deprived of education, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said. He also added that the schools will resume following all the COVID-19 protocols. However, the children will be sent to school only after the parents give their consent.

Physical schooling is better than online schooling. The school has taken all the precautions," says a parent," new agency ANI tweeted today from its official Twitter handle.

Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad tweeted from her official Twitter handle last week, "Schools in areas where coronavirus cases are fewer can restart physical classes for Std 1st-12th and also start pre-primary classes from January 24 onwards. We are committed to safe resumption of schools in the state."

Also, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said the decision to reopen schools for primary classes to XII from Monday was taken after complete thought was given to the issue, as per a PTI report.

While COVID-19 cases have increased over the past few days, 90-95 per cent oxygen and ICU beds are vacant, he said, adding that restrictions would be eased if the rate of hospitalisation remains low.

The minister also informed that 90 per cent of eligible beneficiaries in the state have taken the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, while second dose coverage is in the 62-63 per cent range.

Earlier this month, the Maharashtra government had announced the closure of schools in the state till February 15 as the number of coronavirus cases started to rise from December amid the emergence of the new Omicron variant.
