There is a relief for the students of Maharashtra from classes 1 to 8 as the students of these classes will be promoted to the next class without any examination. The massive surge in the number of coronavirus cases in the state have compelled the authorities to take this decision.

As per a report by ANI, Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad recently announced that students from classes 1 to 8 in Maharashtra will be promoted to the next class without any exams. Though the announcement by Maharashtra Chief Minister has relieved the students, the COVID-19 situation of the state of Maharashtra is not reliving at all, as of April 3, 2021, the figures for the number of active covid-19 cases in the state stood at 4,01,172.

The spike in the number of COVID-19 cases all over the country is compelling various state governments to adopt stringent measures to control the spread of the pandemic. Various states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and others have closed down schools and other educational institutions. Due to the recent upsurge, the Madhya Pradesh Secondary Education Board (MP Board) is also considering extending the dates for the class 10, class 12 board exams which were scheduled to commence from April 30 and May 1.

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra tweeted, "In view of the ongoing situation due to COVID-19, all state board students across Maharashtra state from Class 1st to Class 8th will be promoted to the next class without any examinations. A decision regarding students of class 9th and 11th will soon be taken."

The state governments are adopting stringent measures to control the spread of the COVID-19 disease in the state.
