As per a PTI report, the Lucknow administration in Uttar Pradesh has ordered the closure of all educational institutions except the medical colleges to effectively combat the spread of the coronavirus infection.

Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh government had decided to shut down all schools up to class 8 till March 31, 2021. However, now the government has decided to extend the closure of the schools till April 11, 2021 for all students up to class 8. In fact, several other states have also decided to shut down the schools and other educational institutions in their states to curb the spread of the pandemic. For instance, the Madhya Pradesh government has decided to close all schools in the state up to class 8 till April 15, 2021. Chhattisgarh Minister Ravindra Choubey on March 21, 2021 informed that schools, colleges and Anganwadis will be closed in the state due to the massive rise in the number of COVID-19 cases. And there are various other states in this list.

Lucknow’s District Magistrate Abhishek Prakash in a statement said that all government and non-government schools, colleges, coaching institutes and other educational institutes, barring medical, nursing and para-medical ones will remain closed till April 15.

However, regarding the exams, he said that the examinations including the practical examinations will be allowed in recognised educational institutes with strict adherence to the anti-COVID protocol.

The administrations have gone back to the measures adopted during the initial days of the pandemic. When the COVID-19 disease first struck the country in March last year, the schools and other educational institutions were closed down. Now, with the recent rise in the number of cases all over the country, authorities are once again closing down schools and educational institutions to contain the disease.
