Gujarat Board Exam 2021 Postponed: Soon after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)  announced its decision regarding the cancellation of CBSE class 10 board exams and postponement of class 12 board exams, several other state boards have also followed the same path. Amidst the rising number of COVID-19 cases all over the country, the respective state governments are imposing stringent norms to contain the spread of the pandemic.

On Thursday, the Gujarat government has decided to postpone the Gujarat Secondary Education Board (GSEB) class 10 class 12 board exams till further announcement on May 15, 2021.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani's office announced the decision regarding the postponement of class 10 class 12 exams on twitter. The Gujarat CMO tweeted, "In the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, Gujarat Govt decides to postpone Class 10 & 12 board examinations, scheduled to be held between May 10 to 25, and mass promotion for students of std 1 to 9 & 11. The new dates will be announced after reviewing the coronavirus situation on May 15."

 

The CBSE has cancelled the class 10 board exams. The results of the CBSE class 10 board exam candidates will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion to be decided by the board. The CBSE class 12 board exams have been postponed as of now. The decision regarding the revised dates of the class 12 board exams will be decided after a thorough review of the situation on June 1, 2021.

Earlier, the Maharashtra government had also decided to postpone the SSC and HSC exams for the class 10 class 12 board exam candidates. Due to surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government has ordered to postpone the class 10 class 12 board exams till May 20, 2021. In Uttar Pradesh, the schools have also been ordered to remain closed till May 15, 2021.

When the coronavirus pandemic first struck the country last year, the schools and other educational institutions were closed down because of the nation-wide lockdown. The students then had to shift to the digital platform for online classes. Several alternative methods to evaluate the students were also resorted to.

Now, with the number of COVID-19 cases again rising in the country and exams being cancelled, the authorities need to look upon to alternate ways of evaluating the students.
