According to a report by India Today, January 2021 has seen over 10.9 lakh Indian students enrolled in universities abroad. Furthermore, it is expected to rise this year with students who had deferred their 2020 admissions or were waiting for a relaxation in pandemic restrictions around the world. Hence, if the CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2021 gets further delayed, it will make it tougher to get admission in foreign universities due to the increased competition for limited number of seats.

Akshay Chaturvedi, Founder and CEO, Leverage Education was quoted by India Today as saying, "We have spoken with a host of foreign universities over the last few months on this. They understand the current predicament and have committed to do additional intakes in January, which students can then join into. This will ensure they don’t end up wasting an academic year."
The CBSE had notified that a decision on the revised date sheet for the CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2021 will be taken after a thorough review of the COVID-19 situation in the country on June 1, 2021. Incidentally, the CBSE had already cancelled the CBSE Class 10 Board Exam 2021 and announced an assessment criteria.
