As per CBSE assessment criteria for Class 10, students will be assessed out of 100 marks for each subject in consonance with the past performance of the school in Class 10 board examinations.  As per the CBSE policy, 20 marks will be given as per existing policy of the board and 80 marks based on marks obtained by students in different test/exams conducted by the school during the year.  However, it had also said that school should keep a check on “inflation of marks” and allott marks in consonance with its best performance in Class 10 in the last three academic years—2017-18, 2018-19, and 2019-20.

This had been opposed by schools. As per a Hindustan Times report, an association of over 400 Delhi private schools has written to the CBSE requesting it to review the marking scheme calling it 'unfair'.

The association in a letter on May 13, said the CBSE marking schools based on their performance in last 3 years is unpractical as the number of students in different schools may differ from single digit to almost a thousand.

“The proposed calculation formulae are unfair for high-performing students in underperforming schools and gives undue benefit to underperforming students in high-performing schools,” HT quoted S K Bhattacharya, president of the association, making this statement in the letter.

Similatly, a principal of a government girls senior secondary school also told this portal that the board picked 2017-18 as their reference academic year is not fair. “Our result was 65% and around 126 students had scored below 26% marks in science in our school for that year. However, this year, in the pre-board exams, only 38 students have scored below 26% marks in the subject. How can we reduce the marks of so many students when they already know the score of each and every unit test and pre-boards?” the principal said.

Meanwhile, CBSE responding to it said that the board has given most practical and best possible solutions.

Meanwhile, the decision to hold Class 12 exams is yet to be taken after nothing came up in the high-level meeting held by Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' on May 17. Several CBSE Class 12 students continue to demand cancellation of exams. However, it is said the decision would be made soon.
