TRAI consultation paper: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Tuesday released the Consultation Paper on 'Introduction of Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) in Telecommunication Networks'. This is mainly to stop pesky and fraud calls.

The mechanism is to display the name of the caller on mobile phones.

"Department of Telecommunications (DoT) through a reference dated 21.03.2022 requested the Authority to provide its recommendations under Section 11(1)(a) of TRAI Act, 1997 (as amended) on introducing the Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) facility in the Indian Telecommunication Network," the release said.

Written comments were invited from stakeholders on the issues raised in the consultation paper by 27 December 2022. The date of Counter Suggestions has been kept till January 10, 2023.

Also, DoT had asked TRAI to prepare a framework regarding this on March 21, 2022, after this new rule, people will be able to avoid fake calls, and spam easily. Through this, the customer will have complete information about the caller.

The customer will be able to decide easily whether he/she has to pick up the call or not. This arrangement can be made for both telecom and online calls.

After starting this service TRAI, automatically all the users will officially see photos, names, numbers, and other things on the screen of the phone. According to the information given by TRAI, this new facility can be started soon all over India.
