Former chairman and CEO of the Railway Board Anil Kumar Lahoti was named the next chairperson of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Monday. The announcement stated that the appointment of the new TRAI chief was okayed by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

The circular stated: "The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shri Anil Kumar Lahoti, IRSE (1984) (Retd), Former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Railway Board, Ministry of Railways, Government of India as Chairman, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for a period of three years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until he attains the age of 65 years or until further orders, whichever is earlier."

As per the circular, his term as the Chairman of TRAI will last for a period of three years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until he attains the age of 65 years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

He is an officer of the 1984 batch of the Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE).
