Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC) campus in Karnataka during his scheduled visit to the state on Friday, January 19. Built with an investment of Rs 1,600 crore, the campus—spread across 43 acres of land—marks the American planemaker’s largest such investment outside the US, according to an official statement.

The Prime Minister—who is also scheduled to lay the foundation stone of a number of projects in Maharashtra earlier that day—will inaugurate the Boeing India Engineering & Technology Centre and launch the Boeing Sukanya Programme in Bengaluru, Karnataka at around 2:45 pm, according to the official statement. 

Where is the Boeing campus located?

It is located at Aerospace Park in Devanahalli, near the Kempegowda International Airport, in Karnataka.

The Boeing campus will become a cornerstone for partnership with the vibrant startup, private and government ecosystem in India, it said. 

The campus will also help in developing next generation products and services for the global aerospace and defence industry.

What is Boeing Sukanya Program? 

The programme aims to support the entry of more girl children from across India into the country’s growing aviation sector. It is a transformational Boeing programme that will also provide opportunities for girls and women from across the country to learn critical skills in the science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) fields and train for jobs in the aviation sector. 

For young girls, the programme will create STEM Labs at 150 planned locations to help spark interest in STEM careers. 

It will also provide scholarships to women who are training to be pilots, the statement added. 

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the opening ceremony of the Khelo India Youth Games 2023 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu later on Friday.
