LPG Cylinder Price: The central government has slashed the price of domestic LPG, which is used in the kitchen for cooking purposes,  by Rs 200 per 14.2-kg cylinder in New Delhi.  At present, the cylinder costs Rs 1,103 in New Delhi.

Domestic LPG cylinder prices were last revised on March 1, when they were hiked by Rs 50 per cylinder.

In addition to this, the Cabinet also cleared the proposal to provide 75 lakh new LPG cylinder connections under the Ujjwala scheme, thus taking the total beneficiaries to more than 10 crores across the country. 

The decision comes with Assembly elections scheduled in four states in December and Lok Sabha polls are to be held next year.

Oil marketing companies (OMCs) have been reporting heavy under-recoveries due to a lack of hikes in the prices of domestic cooking gas.

Benefits of the Ujjwala scheme

Under the Ujjwala scheme, LPG connections are provided to women beneficiaries in rural households.

The beneficiaries are already getting a Rs 200 subsidy and now there will be a further Rs 200 cut for all domestic LPG connection holders. 

He further informed that the new connections are being given to those beneficiaries who have been added owing to the marriage of girls and issuance of new ration cards.

Taking to social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, the primer minister said the move would help “my sisters" and make their lives convenient.

“PM Modi @narendramodi Ji has taken the bold step of reducing LPG cylinder price by ₹200/cylinder for all LPG consumers (33 crore connections) PM Ujjwala Yojana consumers will continue to the get the subsidy of ₹200/cylinder in their accounts," Hardeep Singh Puri, oil minister, said in a post on X.
