The Karnataka government's Gruha Jyoti Yojana, offering 200 units of free electricity to every household in the state, has received over 8 lakh registration so far. The scheme, which was one of the five key promises made by the Congress in the state assembly election, received the cabinet's nod on June 2. The announcement was followed up with opening up for registration on June 18. According to Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited, a total of over 8.16 lakh consumers had already registered for the scheme by Jun 20. Confirming the development in a tweet, the electricity board said, On Day 1, nearly 96,305 consumers registered which rose to 3,34 , 845 on Day 2 while Day 3 has seen nearly 3,95,481 registrations.
