The initiative entails tapping into Earth's natural heat reservoirs by drilling deep underground and harnessing thermal liquid to propel turbines, significantly lessening dependence on traditional coal combustion. This pioneering method, executed in collaboration with geothermal energy specialists, marks a paradigm shift in sustainable energy solutions.

This trailblazing endeavor has garnered approval for a pilot project with a capacity of 20 KW, showcasing its potential to revolutionise the energy landscape. The synergy between Singareni Coal Area and the Coal Ministry has played a pivotal role in advancing this transformative project, which boasts a modest total cost of Rs 2.5 crore. Already, the project has achieved notable success, with a 5 KW electric production milestone being attained.

Looking ahead, the Coal Ministry aims to proliferate the deployment of geothermal power plants nationwide.

The appeal of these plants lies not only in their environmental benefits but also in their cost-effectiveness. Installation and production costs are significantly lower compared to traditional methods, rendering them an attractive option for sustainable energy production.

In addition to these efforts, the government is exploring the potential of geothermal power plants, particularly in areas where electricity transmission presents logistical challenges. This initiative follows the success of the coal gasification program, signaling a strategic pivot towards diversified energy sources.

The brainchild of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the geothermal power plant initiative underscores the government's commitment to innovation and sustainability in the energy sector. Funded by the Coal Ministry itself, this ambitious endeavor promises to reshape the energy production landscape in India, paving the way for a greener and more prosperous future.
