Yashobhoomi launch highlights: PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the Yashobhoomi international convention and expo centre in Dwarka, New Delhi, on September 17. Developed at a cost of Rs 5,400 crore, the Yashobhoomi project is spread over a project area of more than 8.9 lakh square metres, housing 15 convention rooms-all contributing to its total seating capacity of more than 11,000 delegates. Yashobhoomi highlights: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the Yashobhoomi international convention and expo centre in Dwarka, New Delhi, on Sunday, September 17. The Yashobhoomi project is developed at a cost of about Rs 5,400 crore and spread over a project area of more than 8.9 lakh square metres. The Yashobhoomi convention centre houses 15 convention rooms, a grand ballroom and 13 meeting rooms, all contributing to its total seating capacity of more than 11,000 delegates. The Prime Minister also inaugurated an extended portion of the Delhi Airport Metro Express line, from Dwarka Sector 21 to a new metro station, Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25, as part of the government's plan to connect the mega convention centre to the Delhi Metro. The PM formally launched the Rs 13,000-crore Vishwakarma scheme, aimed at improving the training, quality, and outreach of traditional artisans and craftsmen.

  • PM Modi formally launches Vishwakarma scheme

    What is the PM Vishwakarma scheme?

    The Rs 13,000-crore PM Vishwakarma scheme is aimed at improving the training, quality, and outreach of traditional artisans and craftsmen. The ambitious scheme is expected to help around 30 lakh craftsmen like weavers, goldsmiths, blacksmiths, laundry workers and barbers, among others. 

    It aims to tap the 'guru-shishya' tradition or family-based practice of traditional skills by artisans and craftsmen working with their hands and tools, according to an official statement.

    The extended portion connects the Dwarka Sector 21 train station of the Delhi Metro to the new Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 station. 

    According to an official statement, the Delhi Metro will increase the operational speed of trains on the Airport Express Line from 90 to 120 km/hour, completing journeys from New Delhi to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 in about 21 minutes.

    The Prime Minister's Vishwakarma scheme will provide recognition to the Vishwakarma community through PM Vishwakarma certificates and ID cards, using which, the eligible individuals will be able to avail subsidised loans of up to Rs 1 lakh in the first tranche and Rs 2 lakh in the second tranche. These loans will be given at a concessional interest rate of five per cent.

    The PM had announced the PM Vishwakarma scheme in his August 15 speech.

It will draw delegates from all around the world," PM Narendra Modi wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on the eve of the official inauguration of the Yashobhoomi convention centre. The PM also said that the Yashobhoomi complex has received Platinum certification from Indian Green Building Council.
