HDFC Bank-HDFC Merger: Mutual Funds to sell up to Rs 40 billion of HDFC Bank stock after merger

The merger of HDFC Bank and HDFC will create India's second-largest financial institution by assets. However, the merger could put pressure on mutual funds to reduce their holdings in the merged company, as SEBI rules state that mutual funds cannot invest more than 10% in a single security. It is estimated that funds may need to sell Rs 30-40 billion of the merged company's stock to comply with regulations.
