Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi on Wednesday said that it had sold out over half a million smartphones in India within 3 hours. This it said was due to the festive sales offered by e-commerce companies companies such as Amazon India, Snapdeal and Flipkart.

The company said it sold 500,000 smartphones in just 72 hours.

Manu Jain the head of India operations of the company said between the five ecommerce platforms that Xiaomi is available on two phones were sold every second, according to a Mint report. He further added that the Redmi Note 3 was the best selling phone on Amazon during the period and the Redmi 3S and 3S Prime were the top selling phones on Flipkart.

Xiaomi during the last festive season took 30 days to sell the same number of phones. However, this time the company was geared up with higher stock availability and new launches before the period.

The Redmi Note 3 has been the best selling phone online in India, the company just last week itself had claimed.

The Redmi Note 3 is priced at Rs 9,999, while the Redmi 3S and 3S Prime is priced at Rs 6,999.

Considering the phones are in the price bracket of below Rs 10,000, and the discounts offering on these platform it is not a big feat.

In comparison, Apple which recently launched iPhone 7 has seen much higher sales when its launch. The sales of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus has market share of the total number of iPhones has reached 3.6% after two weeks of sales.

This is despite it being priced much higher at Rs 60,000.

Apple had even sold over 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models in the span of 3 days after its launch on September 19, 2014. The phones were priced at a similar range as the new iPhone.
