Are you a resident of Delhi? If yes, then get ready to rent an electric car for an hour, a day, week or a month. Interestingly, you will be able to even drive this car. Zoomcar India has announced that the residents of Delhi can now rent an electric car from Zoomcar's platform in Delhi. Under this, consumers will be offered 100 e2oPlus electric cars from the platform. For this purpose, Zoomcar has tied up with Mahindra Electric. The initiative is aimed at promoting connected, shared and electric mobility as a model, in line with the recommendation from NITI Aayog's report on the government's 2030 vision.

According to NITI Aayog, in the coming days, more companies will come forward for such services. It also says, the government should cooperate with it in strengthening the battery and charging infrastructure in the national capital. At present, Zoomcar provides similar services in Mysuru, Hyderabad and Jaipur in collaboration with Mahindra Electric. And it has a target to launch the services in other cities like Chennai, Mumbai and Kolkata.

It is believed that this model of business/mobility is being planned with an aim to serve foreigners who prefer driving electric cars. At the same time, the model is also being framed to serve the domestic consumers in the best possible way. But the biggest challenge in promoting the e-mobility business is the lack of infrastructure, which is a challenge for long distance travellers.

Mahindra Electric in November 2017 had announced its partnership with car rental companies Zoomcar for zero-emission mobility services in Mysuru. Under the alliance, 20 fully electric Mahindra e2o Plus cars were deployed in the city that can be hired by the residents and visitors.
