UltraTech mines get 5-star ratings by Ministry of Mines for best mining practices
The star ratings are conceptualised by the Ministry of Mines on the adoption of best practices for implementation of Sustainable Development Framework in mining.
Thirteen limestone mines of UltraTech Cement Limited have been awarded 5-star ratings by the Indian Bureau of Mines under the Ministry of Mines.
Pralhad Joshi, MoS Ministry of Coal, felicitated UltraTech, which is the cement flagship company of the Aditya Birla group, at the 75th anniversary celebrations of IBM for demonstrating exceptional performance in all aspects of mining and contributing to the mining sector.
"UltraTech’s endeavours in driving excellence in mining are in line with the Indian Bureau of Mines’ goals towards sustainable mining, efficient operations, and technology-driven mineral processing," the company said in a statement.
The statement said that focus areas of sustainability are decarbonisation, circular economy, biodiversity management, water positivity, safe operations and community development.
The star ratings are conceptualised by the Ministry of Mines on the adoption of best practices for implementation of Sustainable Development Framework in mining.
A five-star rating, the highest in the rating scheme, is given to mines that performed best on parameters such as scientific, efficient and sustainable mining, compliance with approved production, land resettlement and other social impacts.
