SpiceJet has not been showering love on its crew in recent weeks. It transpired, that low cost domestic carrier SpiceJet decided to make a money-saving gesture. It imposed ordered that hot meals will not be provided to staff during flights. Needless to say, the staff, was not too pleased. In fact, things went from bad to worse and the issue soon became so hot for SpiceJet to handle that it scrambled to revoke the order. The no hot meals fiat lasted a month. The airline did a U-turn in this regard on September 1, said a report.
 
In a mail to pilots on Tuesday, SpiceJet chief pilot Captain S K Dabral said, “The one month experiment to have a different meal onboard and the system of not uplifting hot meals seems to be not meeting the desired logistical results. Hence with immediate effect we are reverting to the previous system for the cockpit crew and working on improving the goody bag and the meals.” 
 
The Times of India report said that under this experiment the carrier stopped taking meals for its crew in the flights and rather provided cabin crew and pilots, on domestic flights an allowance of Rs 300 so that they could either buy hot meals on board or from terminals. The crew was reportedly told to buy hot meals or snacks using their meal allowance. 
 
SpiceJet reportedly stated that the move was not to cut costs but to stop wastage.

Earlier this month, a mail titled “replacement of cockpit crew hot meals with meal allowances, sandwiches and goody bag” sent by SpiceJet chief pilot Captain S K Dabral to crew had reportedly said: “Statistical data compiled over last many months has shown that a vast majority of our crew (both cockpit and cabin) are not eating hot meals earmarked for them. In some months, up to 90% of the uplifted hot meals have gone waste.”
