Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has unveiled a broadband plan for Rs 491 through Twitter on Thursday, stating that it would be the 'most economic broadband plan.' Significantly, this may compete and even beat Reliance Jio's JioGigaFiber plan that will enter the fibre broadband sector from August 15. The state owned telco said the plan is already live for users who would get 20GB data per day for 30 days at 20Mbps speed. The public firm is also offering a high-speed connection along with unlimited free calling to any network.

A member on BSNL's board, NK Mehta, said, "BSNL is committed to offer high quality, most affordable and data services which meets everyone's expectations." BSNL's plan 491 is already available across their customer service centers, franchises, and retailers. Priced at Rs 777 and Rs 1,277, BSNL in June introduced two new FTTH (Fibre-to-the-Home) plans. The BSNL is offering  500 GB monthly data at 50 Mbps under the Rs 777 plan, while the Rs 1277 plan comes with 750 GB monthly data at 100 Mbps speed.

Notably, Reliance Industries (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Thurday announced that the company was launching JioGigaFiber, Jio`s fixed line broadband at the company's Annual General Meeting in Mumbai. Ambani said, "We will now extend fiber connectivity to homes, merchants, small and medium enterprises and large enterprises simultaneously across 1,100 cities to offer the most advanced fiber-based broadband connectivity solutions,"
